Crushing The Rocks
Material study of mineral pigments as raw materials for textil printing
The work includes a set of textile samples representing the preliminary results from a study on textile printing using mineral pigments. These pigments are sourced from various rocks, charcoal, and also the mineral schwertmannite, which is found in acidic mine waters in the Slovak Ore Mountains region. The pigments are combined with a binder rich in plant protein obtained from soybeans or with a chitosan binder. Chitosan is a polymer that may be found in the shells of crustaceans.
