Autonomous tram Prague 2030

URBI is autonomous tram for Prague in 2030. In my master thesis I deal with the future of public transport, where autonomous driving and new technologies bring new possibilities. Population in big cities will grow and it is necessary to provide functional network of public transport to reduce amount of individual cars. Prague has a large rail network, which led me to the choice of tramcar. Fleet of small autonomous trams could create more dynamic and flexible system which would adapt to various traffic situations in the city. Interior without driver also provides more space for passengers. Future should be wireless, tram is powered by batteries which are charged during the stops. Distinctive front light increases tram visibility and also visually communicates with pedestrians around. Interactive infotainment helps people to reach their destination. Outer airbag also enhances pedestrian safety. This project was realized together with ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION.
