Preliminary General Conditions of the Competition
National Award for Student Design 2012

Participants

Students of universities, high schools, professional and secondary schools studying in the Czech Republic regardless of their citizenship, students (Czech Republic nationals) studying on similar schools abroad and graduates who finished their studies not later than in June 2012, for their schools or for themselves. Individuals as well as teams may participate.

Objects of the competition 2012

Annual, final, semestral and other (own) student works created after January 1, 2010 can be admitted to the competition. Works enrolled in foregoing years of the competition cannot be admitted. Accepted are works from a broad spectre of the term design: e.g. industrial products, furniture, sanitary elements, glass, ceramics, porcelain, textile, clothing, shoes and accessories, toys, jewels, graphic design, book binding, wrapping, interior solutions, stage design, construction design in machinery, construction, architecture and in landscape remodelling.

Assessment

Three independent juries shall assess the participating works by a point system. The works shall be submitted to juries under a registration numbers only (without names & school identifications). The juries shall decide about awards of following grades: Good Student Design 2012, Excellent Student Design 2012 and National Award for Student Design 2012. Co-organizers and/or partners of the competition may also award their special prizes.

Assessment criteria

Each jury shall assess the works according to the following criteria:

- Originality, innovation
- Technical and technological level
- Harmony of aesthetical, functional and ergonomic solution
- Ethical, ecologic and social aspects
- Further aspects as formulated by individual independent juries

Competition funding and registration fee

Funding

The competition is based on several sources of funding. It is basically the registration fee also in the year 2012 covered by participating schools and/or participating students. Major source of the funding is however the contribution of private subjects. Bank account of the competition: Česká spořitelna, a.s., No. 145 503 389/0800 belonging to the Architecture and Building Foundation, foundation programme of the Design Cabinet of the CR.

Registration fee

Registration fee is 1 000 CZK (incl.VAT) for each individual entry approved by a school. Registration fee in case of an independent entry (without a school approval) is 1 500 CZK (incl.VAT) for each individual entry.

Entries

Entry in prescribed form including required enclosures must be submitted electronically through www.studentskydesign.cz in given term to be announced well in advance.

Announcement of the results and awarding

Term of results announcement and awarding shall be announced in good time. All participants shall be informed by an invitation to the ceremonial awarding.

Presentation of the competition

Presentation of the results and awarded works shall be published in good time.

Expert guarantor of the competition

The competition is organized by the Architecture and Building Foundation, foundation programme of the Design Cabinet of the CR.
